The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, has commended the Lagos State Police Command for constructing a new multi-purpose hall, describing it as a “foundation for vision, progress, and excellent service.”

Egbetokun gave the commendation during the foundation-laying ceremony of the I-GP Egbetokun Conference Hall at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Thursday.

He noted that Lagos presented a unique security landscape that often served as a model for policing across Nigeria, adding that the new structure would enhance operational efficiency.

According to him, the new hall, which replaces an older facility, will serve not only as a conference center but also as a space to support various operational needs of the command.

“As we are laying bricks, we are also laying hope and stronger bonds for efficient policing in Nigeria, professionalism, discipline, and excellent service,” he said.

The I-G urged other police commissioners across the country to emulate the Lagos State Police Command’s initiative, stressing the importance of improving infrastructure and service delivery in policing.

Egbetokun also addressed preparations for the upcoming Anambra gubernatorial election scheduled for Saturday, assuring Nigerians of the force’s readiness to provide maximum security.

“Voters in Anambra should come out to cast their vote. A level playing ground will be provided for all candidates.

“The Nigeria police do not have a candidate in this election, the force’s loyalty remains with the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

Speaking on national security ahead of the festive season, the police chief disclosed that preparations for Christmas and New Year had been ongoing across all commands.

He assured the public that adequate security arrangements were in place to ensure safe travel and peaceful celebrations.

Addressing the recent rise in crime, including banditry and kidnapping, Egbetokun emphasised the need for a community-based approach to tackling insecurity.

“Security is not something provided in silos. We must work in synergy with other security agencies and all communities in Nigeria,” he said.

He further urged citizens to support security agencies by refraining from spreading false information and commended police officers who risk their lives daily to safeguard the nation.

The I-G called for collective national cooperation to strengthen peace and security across Nigeria.
