The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja will proceed to deliver judgement in Nnamdi Kanu’s terrorism trial in absence.

Earlier on, Nnamdi Kanu had conducted himself in a manner that the trial judge considered unruly and was asked to exuse the court.

After years of facing terrorism charges, Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed IPOB, will finally learn his fate today as the court issues its judgment.

Kanu’s prosecution has remained one of the most politically sensitive court cases in Nigeria in recent years. Arrested in 2015 on charges of treasonable felony and terrorism, his case has gone through multiple dramatic twists.

He fled the country in 2017 while on bail, after a military operation “Operation Python Dance” was carried out at his home in the South-East.

In June 2021, he was apprehended in Kenya under disputed circumstances and brought back to Nigeria, a development his lawyers and IPOB have repeatedly condemned as an “extraordinary rendition.”

Following his return, the federal government broadened the allegations against him to 15 counts, including terrorism and incitement to violence.

Kanu’s legal team has consistently questioned the legitimacy of the proceedings, insisting that major legal and procedural breaches   including alleged violations of international extradition standards and jurisdictional irregularities   have fundamentally weakened the prosecution’s case.
More updates shortly.
