President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated three non-career diplomats as Nigeria’s ambassadors to the United States, the United Kingdom and France.

The nominees are Ambassador Ayodele Oke, Retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are, and Ambassador Amin Mohammed Dalhatu. Their appointments will be confirmed subject to Senate screening and approval.

Ambassador Amin Mohammed Dalhatu previously served as Nigeria’s envoy to South Korea, having been appointed in 2016 during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ambassador Ayodele Oke, a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, is a former Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and once represented Nigeria at the Secretariat of the Commonwealth of Nations in London.

Retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are served as Director General of the State Security Service (SSS) between 1999 and 2007 and was appointed National Security Adviser in 2010. A distinguished military intelligence officer, he holds a First Class Honours degree in Psychology from the University of Ibadan, obtained in 1980.

The nominees are expected to play critical roles in strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic relations with the three countries, which are among its most strategic international partners.
