PSC PROMOTES OFFICER TO DIG, ELEVATES TWO CPS, 26,119 INSPECTORS

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Funsho Adegboye to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG).
The Commission also elevated Commissioners of Police Danjuma Aboki and Dansabo Idi to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police.
The approvals were announced in a statement on Thursday by the PSC spokesperson, Mr. Torty Kalu, following the Commission’s third Plenary Meeting held under the chairmanship of DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (retd).
According to the statement, the Commission ratified the promotion of Adegboye to DIG, describing the exercise as part of a rigorous, transparent and merit-based process that included written examinations and oral interviews.
“Furthermore, Commissioners of Police Danjuma Aboki and Dansabo Idi were promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police after successfully scaling the required assessments,” the statement said.
In a major boost to career progression within the Nigeria Police Force, the PSC also approved the promotion of 26,119 Inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II (ASP II), based on their performance in the recently concluded Departmental Selection Board Examination.
Before his promotion, Adegboye served as the AIG in charge of the Police Mobile Force at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. His career spans Operations, Training and Administration, with past roles including Divisional Police Officer, Area Commander in Ijero and Ile-Ife, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Ondo State, and Commissioner of Police in Homicide at the Force Intelligence Department and Edo State Command. He has also served on United Nations peacekeeping missions in Kosovo, Liberia, Timor and Somalia.
Aboki, until his elevation, was the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Imo State Police Command, while Idi previously served as Acting AIG in charge of Research and Planning at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. Idi’s career includes postings as DPO in Kebbi and Kaduna states, Officer-in-Charge of the Criminal Investigation Branch in Kebbi, Area Commander in several commands, Commander of the 63 Police Mobile Force in Ikorodu, Deputy Commissioner of Operations for Zone 1, Lagos, Commandant of the Police College, Kaduna, and Commissioner of Police, Investment, Force Headquarters.
Congratulating the newly promoted officers, PSC Chairman Argungu reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to transparency and merit-driven promotions, urging them to view their new ranks as a call to greater responsibility and service to the nation.
He also commended the PSC Standing Committee on Nigeria Police Force Matters, led by DIG Taiwo Lakanu (retd.), for overseeing the examination and interview processes.
In December 2025, the Commission had approved the promotion of 774 senior police officers to higher ranks.
