2,103 CANDIDATES BEGIN 2026 PUBLIC SERVICE EXAMINATION ACROSS NIGERIA

No fewer than 2,103 candidates commenced the 2026 Public Service Examination organized by the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) on Thursday.
The examination, which runs through Friday, targets candidates from federal and state ministries, departments and agencies, including State Civil Service Commissions, Local Government Service Commissions, parastatals, and other public institutions nationwide.
In a statement, ASCON Director-General, Dr. Funke Adepoju, described the examination as a “critical gateway for ensuring quality entry and career progression within the public service.” She emphasized that the exercise is part of ASCON’s statutory mandate to promote professionalism and merit in the Nigerian Public Service.
Adepoju disclosed that the candidates represent 20 client organisations across the federation, including civil service commissions from Oyo, Ondo, Enugu, Ekiti, Delta, and Anambra states.
She explained, “Public Service Examination is designed to assess the suitability of fresh graduates seeking appointments into the Administrative and Specialised Departmental Cadres. It also provides a transparent platform for serving officers seeking conversion from the Executive Cadre to the Officer Cadre after acquiring the required degree qualifications.”
According to Adepoju, the examination supports broader manpower planning and human capacity development for client organisations while promoting fairness, transparency, and institutional integrity.
She reiterated ASCON’s commitment to inclusivity and professionalism in the recruitment and development of Nigeria’s public service workforce and noted that registration for the 2026 examination is still ongoing.
