Despite delays in the passage of the amended Electoral Act currently before the National Assembly, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured Nigerians of its readiness for the 2027 general election.

The Commission stated that it has completed work on the election timetable and schedule of activities.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, made the disclosure on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).

While noting that INEC has submitted its proposals to the National Assembly, Amupitan acknowledged that some items in the schedule could be affected depending on when the lawmakers pass the amended Electoral Act.

He emphasized, however, that for now, the Commission must proceed under the provisions of the existing law to prepare for the elections.
