US CONDEMNS KWARA KILLINGS, SUPPORTS TINUBU’S SECURITY ACTION

The United States has criticized the deadly attack on communities in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State. The attack has caused anger both inside Nigeria and around the world.
The Nigerian Police Force reported that 75 people were confirmed dead in the attack on Woro and Nuku communities. However, local sources and international observers say the number of deaths is much higher.
In a statement on X on Friday, the US Mission in Nigeria described the attack as “horrific,” saying more than 160 people were feared dead, with many still unaccounted for.
“The United States condemns the horrific attack in Kwara state in Nigeria, which claimed the lives of more than 160 people, with the death toll still unconfirmed and many still unaccounted for.

“The United States condemns the horrific attack in Kwara state in Nigeria, which claimed the lives of more than 160 people, with the death toll still unconfirmed and many still unaccounted for.
“We express our deepest condolences to the families of those affected by this senseless violence,” the statement read.
It welcomed President Bola Tinubu’s directive to deploy security forces to protect affected communities.

The reaction increases the global criticism of the attack, which had already received disapproval from the United Nations and the Republic of Türkiye.
Tinubu ordered the sending of an army battalion to Kaiama and approved the setup of a new military command to oversee the operation, after the attack on Woro and Nuku communities.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, also directed the immediate sending of tactical and intelligence teams to Kaiama and nearby areas to bring peace and stop more attacks.
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, said the deployment of troops under Operation Savannah Shield would help stop more violence, and added that security forces are already in place.
