IPOB CANCELS MONDAY SIT-AT-HOME IN SOUTH-EAST, EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 9 – SPOKESPERSON

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the total and permanent cancellation of the Monday sit-at-home across the South-East, effective Monday, February 9, 2026.
In a statement released on Sunday, IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful said the directive came directly from the group’s “supreme leader,” Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
“The Monday sit-at-home across the South-East is officially and permanently cancelled with effect from tomorrow, Monday, February 9, 2026,” the statement read. IPOB explained that Kanu made the decision to restore normalcy in the region, ensuring children return to school and residents can carry out their businesses without fear or intimidation.
The group emphasized that “anyone attempting to enforce sit-at-home from this moment forward is acting against the direct command of our Supreme Leader” and warned that such individuals would be confronted and defeated. IPOB also cautioned against potential false-flag operations aimed at creating fear or enforcing sit-at-home.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant, calm, and law-abiding while resuming normal activities. IPOB also warned state governments against taking action against traders who may still choose to stay home out of personal conscience, specifically noting that any attempt by Governor Soludo or other governors to forcibly close markets would be resisted.
Regarding market development projects, IPOB stated that any renovations requiring temporary relocation must have the consent of all stakeholders, with adequate temporary trading sites provided.
Calling for unity, IPOB added, “Our enemies have tried to sow discord among our people in the past. We must remain one people, united by a common destiny.”
The group reiterated its directive for residents to open shops, go to work, and send children to school, declaring, “The era of Monday sit-at-home is over.”
Earlier, a viral video showed an IPOB faction led by Igwe Butuzo and Gentle De Yahoo also announcing the cancellation of the civil disobedience, citing an order from Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Legal consultant to Kanu, Aloy Ejimakor, noted that the IPOB leader had been calling for the suspension of the sit-at-home since 2024.
“In July 2024, he gave me written instructions, which were widely published, including by the DAILY POST.
“He directed that the sit-at-home be cancelled, but it continued despite his order. The initiative was not very successful; I faced threats, and many people opposed it.
“From July 2024—almost two years ago, or roughly a year and eight or nine months ago—Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been on record publicly calling for the discontinuation of the Monday sit-at-home.
“He has also consistently opposed any attempts by groups to enforce it. That position has never changed. So, if anyone announces the cancellation of the Monday sit-at-home in Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s name, they are speaking in line with his directive.
“My understanding is that the recent video is based on his instructions from July 2024. I don’t think anyone can claim it is inaccurate,” Ejimakor told the media.
