TRADER IN ARGUNGU ACCEPTS EVERY CURRENCY NIGERIA HAS EVER USED

A video shared on X on Saturday has gone viral after capturing a trader in Argungu who reportedly accepts every form of currency ever used in Nigeria, ranging from pre-colonial cowries to contemporary naira notes and coins.
The clip, recorded during the Argungu Fishing Festival, shows the trader proudly handling and displaying the wide array of currencies, drawing curiosity and admiration from onlookers.
Photojournalist FotoNugget, who shared the video, noted: “This trader accepts and trades with all the currencies we ever used in Nigeria: Cowries (pre-colonial era – 19th century), Manillas (15th–19th century), British West African Pound (1912–1959), Nigerian Pound (1959–1973), Naira Notes and Coins.”
