FIRE DESTROYS 20 SHOPS AT JOS EARLY MORNING MARKET

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has reported that a fire at Faringada Market in Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State, destroyed 20 shops.
The agency made the disclosure in a statement shared on its official X page.
According to the statement, the fire occurred around 6:00 a.m. and primarily affected shops selling vehicle spare parts within the market.
NEMA reported that the fire also destroyed four containers and two vehicles—a bus and a Toyota Corolla—though no casualties were recorded.

The agency stated that its Jos Operations Office, in collaboration with the Federal Fire Service, responded to the incident. Emergency responders successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to other shops in the market.
Preliminary information gathered from market stakeholders indicates that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. NEMA confirmed that investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the outbreak.
The agency also noted that the fire caused economic losses for affected traders while authorities continue to probe its cause.
