LAGOS CONVENES HIGH-LEVEL FORUM TO ENFORCE ZERO TOLERANCE ON BUILDING COLLAPSE

The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory (LSMTL), on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, organised a seminar at Jubilee Chalets, Epe, Lagos State. The event comes at a critical time following recent structural incidents, including the collapse of a school building in the Ogba area earlier this month.
The General Manager of LSMTL, Engineer Olayinka Abdul, welcomed participants and highlighted the significance of the gathering. In her opening address, She emphasised the agency’s commitment to enforcing strict compliance with forthcoming policies aimed at preventing building collapse.
She further noted that the agency is collaborating closely with other ministries to ensure that all implemented policies are effectively enforced and properly monitored.
The Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, who was represented by Mr. Fashola Abdulrafiu Omowole, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, commended the attendees and praised the impactful work of LSMTL in improving infrastructure standards across the state. He also acknowledged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his continued support of the sector and lauded Engineer Olayinka Abdul for her exemplary leadership and dedication.
Similarly, Dr. Olugbenga Aina expressed appreciation for the department’s efforts toward the development of Lagos State. He commended the team for their support in ensuring the successful execution of the General Manager’s initiatives.
The seminar concluded with closing prayers offered by one of the attendees, marking the end of a successful and impactful engagement aimed at ensuring that all buildings and structures comply with the established policies in Lagos State.
