Terrorists launched an assault on Ariko community in Kachia Local Government Area, Kaduna State, targeting two Christian churches during Easter celebrations. The attack left at least seven people dead and several others abducted.

The early Sunday assault caused widespread panic as heavily armed gunmen entered the community in large numbers.

Awon Ward councillor, Mark Bawa, confirmed the attack, naming the affected churches as First ECWA Church and St. Augustine Catholic Church, both in Ariko.

“I am on my way to the community to determine the exact number of casualties. Some reports indicate seven deaths, others suggest eight. I will update once confirmed,” Bawa said.

He noted that limited telecommunications coverage delayed emergency responses. “The attackers surrounded the area, firing sporadically at worshippers. Several were killed, and many were taken into the bush,” he added.

Residents said the assailants operated for a prolonged period without opposition, highlighting the vulnerability of rural communities.

As of this report, the Kaduna State Police Command has not released an official statement regarding the incident.
