The Nigeria Customs Service has cautioned the public about a fake social media account circulating online that is falsely advertising vehicle auctions.

In a statement shared on its official X handle on Monday, the Service clarified that the claim did not originate from the NCS and described it as a scheme designed to defraud unsuspecting individuals.

“The NCS wishes to make it clear that this claim is untrue and did not come from the Service.

“The officer whose image is being used is not involved in any car sales on social media, and the account is an impersonation intended to deceive and defraud unsuspecting members of the public,” the statement said.

The Service urged members of the public to disregard such messages, avoid making payments, and report the fraudulent account for appropriate action.

“Members of the public are strongly advised to disregard such messages, refrain from making any payments, and report the account for further action,” it added.

This latest scam alert comes amid rising cases of impersonation targeting government agencies in Nigeria, where fraudsters exploit public interest in seized or auctioned vehicles to lure victims.

Last Monday, the Customs Service also warned the public about misleading information circulating on social media, emphasizing that the claims are false and not issued by the Service.

The NCS further urged the public to depend only on its verified communication channels for accurate updates on its activities.
