The Obidient Movement has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of scheming to block Peter Obi, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), from securing a platform ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the movement, alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) delisting of the ADC is part of a wider effort to prevent Obi from participating in the upcoming presidential race.

Speaking to journalists, Tanko claimed the purported plan has been underway since the 2023 general election, warning that it poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s democratic process.

“This covert strategy has been unfolding since the 2023 elections, deliberately creating turmoil within Obi’s former party, the Labour Party, to block his path to political influence.

“Despite Obi’s persistent efforts to restore stability, government agents, aided by a compromised judiciary, repeatedly undermined these initiatives.

“Following his alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the revitalization he brought to the party, the ruling party intensified its interference, pushing legislative changes that resulted in a damaging amendment to the Electoral Act, specifically aimed at pressuring the ADC and curtailing Obi’s presidential aspirations.

“Obi’s visit on March 22, 2026, to former Kano Governor and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, where he received a warm welcome from Kwankwasiyya supporters, further fueled the ruling party’s antagonism.

“The situation reached a critical point during the ADC’s massive rally in Kano on March 30, 2026, when Kwankwaso officially joined the ADC.

“In a desperate bid, the government influenced INEC to reinterpret an Appeal Court ruling, resulting in the delisting of the ADC’s leadership,” he stated.
