PROTEST IN PLATEAU AS YOUTHS DISRUPT FUNERAL OF ANGWAN RUKUBA VICTIMS

A protest happened on Tuesday at an ECWA church in Angwan Rukuba, which is in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau state. The protest took place during the funeral of some people who were killed in a recent attack on the community.
On March 29, at least 28 people were killed and many others were hurt when gunmen attacked the community.
This event caused a lot of anger on social media, and the Plateau state government decided to put a 48-hour curfew in the local government area.
Caleb Mutfwang, the governor of Plateau state, strongly condemned the attack, calling it brutal and not provoked.
On March 30, during a visit to the community, Mutfwang stated that the state government would not permit a mass burial. He assured families that every victim would receive a proper burial.
“The government will work closely with the families to ensure each victim gets a proper burial.
They didn’t deserve to die like that,” the governor said.
On Tuesday, a funeral service for seven attack victims was held at the ECWA church.
However, some youths interfered with the event, claiming that security agencies had arrested three young men for allegedly protecting their neighborhood during the violence.
The angry crowd, who held up various signs as shown in a video shared by News Central, demanded that the men be released before the burial could proceed.
“One of them asked, ‘How can they come and kill us and then arrest our boys, calling them bandits?
Why?‘
“This is the worst kind of injustice,” another protester said.
“If they don’t bring those boys, the funeral won’t happen.”
As of the time of filing this report, it was unclear whether the funeral would proceed, with tempers flaring and tension palpable.
