The United Arab Emirates on Wednesday called on Iran to be held accountable for damages caused by its recent attacks in the Gulf, while seeking clarification on how the fragile truce brokered with the United States will ensure Tehran halts hostilities and reopens the Strait of Hormuz.

The two-week ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran came after more than a month of escalations, during which Iran reportedly targeted Gulf states in retaliation for U.S. and Israeli strikes against its leadership. The UAE said it had been hit more than any other country.

In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it is “seeking further clarification on the agreement’s provisions to ensure Iran’s full commitment to an immediate cessation of all hostilities in the region and the complete and unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.”

The ministry added that Iranian attacks “necessitate a firm position, including ensuring that Iran is held accountable and fully liable for damages and reparations.”

Iran’s strikes disrupted civilian infrastructure, including airports, energy installations, ports, hotels, and residential areas, rattling the region long considered a safe haven in the Middle East. The UAE also urged measures to address Iran’s “full range of threats, including its nuclear capabilities, ballistic missiles, drones, and proxies, while ending threats to freedom of navigation, economic warfare, and piracy in the Strait of Hormuz.”

The attacks have strained Gulf-Iran relations, prompting the UAE to adopt a more hawkish stance, recall its ambassador to Tehran, and close its embassy. Dubai-based airlines reported travel restrictions on Iranians, with high visa rejection rates, while Iran-linked institutions such as a hospital, schools, and a community centre were shut in Dubai.
