President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of soldiers from the 29 Task Force Brigade, Operation HADIN KAI, following a coordinated terrorist attack on their base in Benisheikh, Borno State.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the fallen troops as “unforgettable heroes” and extended condolences to the Nigerian Armed Forces and the families of those killed.
The Defence Headquarters Nigeria confirmed that the attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday, leaving several casualties among the personnel.
Tinubu said the soldiers “fought gallantly to repel the terrorists and prevent Boko Haram from overrunning the communities under their protection,” stressing that their sacrifice would not be forgotten.
He noted that the military had been conducting sustained land and air operations against insurgents, adding that the attackers’ actions reflected desperation in the face of mounting pressure.
The President also commiserated with the families of the deceased, including the late Brigadier-General O.O. Braimah, who he said paid the ultimate price in defence of the nation.

He urged troops not to be discouraged by the incident, calling on them to remain committed, courageous, and patriotic in the fight against terrorism.
Tinubu assured that the Federal Government would continue to support the armed forces with equipment and improved welfare for personnel engaged in frontline operations.
He also appealed to Nigerians and the media to support the military and avoid glorifying or encouraging attacks on security forces, describing the fallen soldiers as “irreplaceable heroes.”
The President extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State, reaffirming the government’s commitment to achieving lasting peace and total victory over insurgency in the North-East.
The attack underscores the continuing security challenges in the region, where troops have battled Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents for more than a decade.
Reports indicate that the assault led to the death of Brigadier-General Braimah and several soldiers, with military vehicles and facilities destroyed during the raid.
The incident comes months after a similar loss involving a senior officer, highlighting ongoing risks faced by troops in counterinsurgency operations.
