The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Saturday held its state congress in Anambra State, where new executive committees were selected through consensus arrangements amid renewed calls for unity and party consolidation.

The congress, held at the Kyrie Events Centre in Awka, resulted in the emergence of a new State Executive Committee led by Chris McCool Nwosu, who was affirmed as the substantive chairman of the party in the state. He was inaugurated alongside other elected officials who now make up the state executive.

In his acceptance speech, Nwosu, a journalist, described the responsibility as a “call to service, not self,” stressing that he and his team accepted the mandate with humility and a strong sense of duty.

He pledged total loyalty to the party and its principles, while also expressing respect for party leaders within the state and across the South-East, including Peter Obi. He called for unity among members, urging them to work together to project the ADC as a credible alternative for the people of Anambra.

According to him, the new executive must rise above internal divisions and build a cohesive structure anchored on trust, inclusion, and shared purpose. He emphasized the need to reconnect with the grassroots, strengthen community engagement, and promote accountability-driven leadership.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Nwosu said the party’s goal is to secure decisive victories at all levels through disciplined organization, effective mobilization, and consistent outreach across communities.

He further noted that the party would extend its reach to every local government area, ward, and household, expressing confidence that the ADC could build a strong, united platform that reflects the aspirations of the people.

The congress was supervised by the ADC State Congress Committee from Abuja, led by Fidel Ayogu, with Nkechi Okiyi serving as secretary and Godson Okoye as a member.

Ayogu urged the newly elected executives to be inclusive in their leadership approach, noting that the consensus process aligned with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act. Similarly, party chieftain Ndubuisi Nwobu called on the leadership to ensure fairness and carry all members along.

Several party stakeholders attended the event, expressing optimism that the new leadership would strengthen the party’s structure and improve its electoral chances ahead of the 2027 general elections. In total, about 54 officials were elected into the state executive, covering state, zonal, local government, and ward levels.
