Security operatives have intercepted a 30-year-old suspect allegedly in possession of 100 rounds of live ammunition along the Zamfara–Katsina border, as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal arms circulation.
According to reports, the arrest was carried out at about 7:20 a.m. on April 17, 2026, during a stop-and-search operation at a checkpoint along the Yankara axis, based on credible intelligence.
The suspect, identified as Umar Sani, a resident of Magami village in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, was said to have been apprehended while riding a motorcycle from Abuja to his hometown.
Security officials said a search of the motorcycle led to the recovery of 100 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, commonly used in AK-47 rifles, which were reportedly hidden inside the fuel tank.
A security source noted that the method of concealment suggested a deliberate attempt to avoid detection and could indicate links to a broader arms supply network.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and is assisting investigators in tracing the source of the ammunition and identifying possible accomplices.
Officials described the interception as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the illegal arms supply chain fueling criminal activities in the region.
“We remain committed to cutting off the logistics chain that sustains armed groups,” another official said, while urging residents to stay vigilant and provide timely intelligence to security agencies.
