Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has forwarded the name of Murtala Garo to the Kano State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as Deputy Governor.
The development was disclosed in a statement released on Wednesday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad. According to the statement, the nomination was made in line with Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, which allows a governor to appoint a deputy governor when the office becomes vacant.
The vacancy followed the voluntary resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Abdussalam Gwarzo, on March 27, 2026.
The governor noted that the decision came after extensive consultations with key stakeholders across the state, urging the Assembly to approve Garo’s nomination.
