Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, on Thursday claimed he now operates as a “freelance politician,” stating he is no longer firmly aligned with any political party.

He made this known while receiving an African Democratic Congress, ADC, chieftain, Peter Obi, alongside stakeholders from the South-East at the Government House in Bauchi.

According to the governor, the meeting focused on fostering national unity and cooperation, emphasizing that it was not rooted in partisan agendas.

“Neither the PDP nor the ADC is operating in isolation. I now see myself as a freelance politician, and even his party is currently facing uncertainty. We are all awaiting clarity from the courts,” he said.

Mohammed noted that both parties remain in the opposition space, describing the engagement as political in nature while withholding full details of their discussions.

“We are clearly in the opposition, which is why this is a political engagement. However, we will not disclose everything that was discussed,” he added.

He further explained that ongoing consultations among political stakeholders are part of broader efforts to explore possible alliances and cooperation ahead of future elections.

Describing Obi’s visit as significant, Mohammed said it reflects attempts to strengthen national unity and cross-regional collaboration.

“He is promoting unity, bridge-building, and a better future for Nigeria. These are values we all share as a government and as a people, and we are truly honoured by his visit,” he said.
