The Ward Executive Committee of Obiozara in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, under the African Democratic Congress (African Democratic Congress), has suspended Mr. Silas Onu over alleged anti-party activities, gross misconduct, and breaches of party discipline.

The suspension was communicated in a letter dated April 22, 2026, addressed to Onu and jointly signed by Mr. Nwachukwu Peter Obinna, the Acting Chairman of Obiozara Ward, and Akuma Martins, the Acting Secretary.

According to them, the action was taken in line with the provisions of the ADC constitution, which empowers the ward executive, as well as relevant sections of the Electoral Act 2026.

He was handed a three-month suspension and is also expected to appear before a seven-member disciplinary committee in line with the constitution of the African Democratic Congress.

The Obiozara Ward Executive Committee gave several reasons for the action, accusing Onu of hijacking the national screening committee, interfering with the national electoral committee, and organising an illegal congress.

They alleged that his actions were aimed at disenfranchising legitimate party members who had purchased nomination forms for various congress positions.

According to them, the alleged plan was foiled by the intervention of the State Chairman, Dr. Mrs. Jennifer Adibe, who reportedly exercised her constitutional authority to oversee party activities, conduct congresses, and set up a state screening committee to ensure due process.

The committee also accused Onu of impersonation at the recently concluded national convention, claiming he unlawfully presented himself as the Ebonyi State Chairman of the ADC and misled both the party’s national leadership and delegates.

They further alleged that his actions had caused deep divisions within the party, led to the creation of parallel and illegal factional leadership structures in Ebonyi State, and weakened the unity and shared objectives of the African Democratic Congress.

As part of the sanctions, Onu was barred from holding any party position at the ward, local government, state, or national level. He was also prohibited from representing the party in any capacity, attending party meetings, congresses, conventions, or other official gatherings, and suspended from exercising any voting rights or membership privileges.

He was given 14 days from April 22, 2026, to appear before the seven-man disciplinary committee constituted by the ward. The committee stated that failure to appear within the stipulated period would be taken as a waiver of his right to defence, after which the matter would proceed to higher disciplinary measures.

Attempts to reach Onu for comment were unsuccessful, as his phone calls were not answered.
