The Edo State Police Command has rescued nine victims from two separate kidnapping incidents across the state, including those abducted along the Benin–Lagos Expressway.

In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, the police said five victims kidnapped during a recent attack on the highway were successfully rescued alive following intensive security operations.

The statement noted that the rescue was achieved through the deployment of tactical teams, intelligence assets, and coordinated bush-combing operations ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika.

“The sustained rescue efforts and strategic dominance of the area exerted pressure on the kidnappers, ultimately leading to the safe rescue of all five victims,” the statement said, adding that the victims had received medical attention and were reunited with their families.

In a related operation, four additional victims abducted earlier in the month were rescued from captivity in the Imiegba Forest, bringing the total number of rescued persons to nine.

The command reassured residents that security presence along the Benin-Lagos corridor and surrounding communities had been significantly reinforced, with tactical and intelligence operations intensified to prevent further attacks.

Police authorities also confirmed that efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the perpetrators behind the incidents.

The development follows a recent attack along the expressway in which gunmen reportedly killed a bus driver and abducted passengers travelling from Lagos to the eastern part of the country, sparking widespread concern over safety on the route.
