Bayero varsity to launch digital radio, TV stations
Vice Chancellor, Bayero University, Kano, Prof. Mohammad Yahuza Bello, yesterday disclosed plans to launch community radio and television stations.
He revealed this at the 34th convocation of the university.
Bello said if unveiled, BUK would be next to the University of Lagos to operate full-fledged radio and television broadcasting stations in the country.
He explained that the installation of the digital equipment imported from abroad had reached an advanced stage.
Bello revealed that the institution had secured the operational licence for its radio broadcast.
He added that the digital television transmission would commence as soon as the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) grants its licence.
The VC said Bayero University has maintained its stalling record of academic excellence among tertiary institutions in the country.
He stressed that the management had continued to redouble efforts to expand the frontier of quality assurance.
According to him, part of the unrelenting efforts of the university was the establishment of five additional faculties, which has graduated it’s first set.
He explained that the new facilities include Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Computer Science and Information Technology, Earth and Environmental Sciences, as well as Communications.
He disclosed that the 34th convocation was staggered to span over five days, as against the previous one-day affair to thrill the participants.
A total of 932 students graduated from the five new faculties. Out of these, 25 came out in first class category.
An overall best graduating student, Ramat Habibu Rabiu, from the Faculty of Life Sciences graduated with CGP 4.97.
