The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Community Engagement in the Northwest, Abdullahi Yakasai, has maintained that the President continues to enjoy strong support in Northern Nigeria ahead of the next general elections.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, Yakasai dismissed suggestions that President Tinubu has lost political backing in the North, describing such claims as politically driven narratives by opposition groups ahead of the 2027 polls.

He said assertions that the President’s support base in the Northwest had weakened were misleading and not reflective of reality.
According to him, the policies and interventions of the Tinubu administration should rather earn appreciation from Nigerians in the northern region.
Yakasai also responded to concerns about worsening economic conditions, noting that the President has taken steps aimed at improving governance and strengthening development at the grassroots level.
He further argued that responsibility for citizens’ welfare is shared across all tiers of government, stressing that state and local authorities also play key roles beyond the federal government.
