The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive participation in Nigeria’s political process, pledging to ensure that women, youths, and persons living with disabilities (PWDs) are actively involved in elections and encouraged to contest elective offices in the 2027 general elections.

The party said the move aligns with its promise to include all Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora, in the nation’s democratic process.

In a statement signed by its National Secretary, Barr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the party stressed that being young or economically disadvantaged, or living with a disability, should not prevent anyone from contributing to nation-building.

He noted that women, due to cultural and structural barriers, have often been underrepresented in politics and therefore require affirmative action to boost their participation and competitiveness.

Enekweizu added that excluding a large portion of the population, particularly women who make up about half of the country, would amount to weakening Nigeria’s democracy.

To this end, he announced that women aspirants under the NDC platform will pay 50 percent of the cost of both Expression of Interest and Nomination forms.

Similarly, youths aged 18 to 35 will also pay 50 percent of the fees, while persons living with disabilities will pay 25 percent.

The statement further clarified that Presidential, Governorship, and National Assembly nomination forms are obtainable at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, while State House of Assembly forms are available at state party offices.
