International media personality Donu Kogbara has criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing it as insensitive to back another Ikwerre candidate for the governorship of Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kogbara made the remarks on Thursday during an appearance on Arise Television’s “Prime Time” programme while reacting to Wike’s preferred choice for the state’s governorship race.
the media reports that Wike’s ally, Ogundu Kingsley Chinda, emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the interview, Kogbara described Chinda as a good man but argued that he should have declined the offer, insisting that it was unfair for another Ikwerre politician to seek the governorship position after the state had already produced several governors from the ethnic group.
She noted that Rivers State has never produced an Ogoni governor, deputy governor, speaker, or chief judge, stressing that power should rotate more fairly among the state’s ethnic groups.
Kogbara further said her opposition to Chinda’s candidacy was based on principles and equity rather than personal issues, maintaining that it was not the turn of the Ikwerre ethnic group to occupy the governorship seat again.
