20 SUSPECTS IN POLICE DETENTION OVER THE DISCOVERY OF A DEAD BABY IN A REFUSE BIN
The incident, which happened on Kalahari/Udi Street, Mile 1, Diobu, Port Harcourt, shocked residents and passersby.
It was gathered that the police arrived the scene and arrested over 20 persons.
An eyewitness simply identified as Uche said the police on arrival arrested over 20 persons before taking the baby’s corpse away.
He said, “The police came this afternoon and carried the dead baby, who was wrapped in a black plastic bag, and also arrested about 20 persons.
“The baby was found in the morning around 8.00am, but the police came around 1.00pm with their van and started arresting anyone they could get.
“They even arrested people that were returning from the church. They also arrested some taxi drivers, who were loading their vehicles, and some residents inside their houses.
“As I’m talking to you now, I am at alert for them (the police). We called the police and told them of the incident this morning; and now, they have come and are arresting our people. Those that have returned said they bailed themselves out with N15,000 each.”
As at the time of filing this report, The Punch reported that, all effort to reach the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Nnamdi Omoni for confirmation, were unanswered.
