LAGOS SWEEPERS PROTEST LATE PAYMENT OF SALARIES, MERGER WITH LAWMA
Lagos State Government street sweepers under the aegis of the “Cleaner Lagos Initiative, CLI,” on Wednesday protested their late payment of salaries and merger with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA.
The sweepers, who chanted various solidarity songs at the Alausa Secretariat, obstructed the road and urged Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to intercede on their behalf and help to put an end to the suffering confronting them.
The sweepers maintained that life was more favourable for them three months ago before their merger with LAWMA, and therefore solicit for a return to status quo.
The protesters demanded for an increase rather than reduction in salaries and revealed that LAWMA had concluded plans to reduce the number of workers employed under the scheme.
NAN reports that the protesters were not allowed into the governor’s office premises and they were not addressed by any government official before they left.
