AFCON2019: MORE SURPRISES AS MADAGASCAR BEAT COD 4-2 ON PENALTIES TO BOOK PLACE IN QUARTERFINALS

Madagascar have sprung up more surprises in the ongoing AFCON2019 after they beat Congo Democratic to book their place in the last 8 of the prestigious African competition in Egypt.
The Madagasi went ahead in the game as early as in the 9th minute, after Ibrahim Amada swerved in a powerful shot from outside the 18-yard box to the left corner of the Congolese post.
Congo levelled up through a header from Cedric Bakambu in the 20th minute to put the scoreline at 1-1 at half-time.
Against the run of play, Madagascar’s captain, Faneva Andriatsima with a flying heading sends Madagascar into a frenzy for few minutes before Former Newcastle player, Chancel Mbemba who presently plies his trade in Portugal with Porto, forced the game into extra time in the 89th minute.
The Congolese were however outclassed in the penalty shooy outs by the Madagasi as it ended 4-2.
Madagascar, newcomers in the tournament who were humiliated by Congo 8-2 in both legs of their qualifier clash advanced to the quarterfinal to play whoever win the match between Algeria and Guinea.
