The Kwara State Ministry of Health has urged stakeholders in the health sector to work together in developing an effective digital healthcare implementation plan aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery across the state.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the ministry’s Press Secretary, Saad Hamdalat, during the opening of a three-day workshop in Ilorin focused on creating a State-Specific Implementation Roadmap for the National Digital Health Initiative.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Taoheed Abdullahi, who represented the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina El-Imam, explained that the workshop was intended to convert national digital health policies into practical solutions tailored to the specific healthcare realities and needs of Kwara State.
According to the commissioner, the initiative goes beyond a routine technical exercise and serves as a strategic step toward aligning national healthcare priorities with the state’s unique opportunities and challenges.
She noted that the proposed implementation roadmap would provide a structured framework for the coordinated execution of digital health programmes, improved accountability, effective resource mobilisation, and measurable outcomes within the health sector.
Amina emphasized that digital transformation has become essential to achieving efficient, inclusive, and sustainable healthcare services, especially as pressure on the healthcare system continues to grow.
She added that the digitalisation of health services remains vital to attaining Universal Health Coverage and improving access to quality healthcare for residents across the state.
The commissioner also encouraged participants at the workshop to contribute practical ideas and strategies capable of producing a realistic, inclusive, and result-driven roadmap aligned with both national objectives and the specific healthcare needs of Kwara State.
Also speaking, the National Digital Health Initiative Focal Person, Dr. Kudirat Lambe, said the workshop would evaluate existing digital health policies, frameworks, and guidelines while also assessing the state’s digital infrastructure and readiness for implementation.
According to Lambe, the engagement is expected to produce a practical four-year implementation plan aimed at strengthening healthcare coordination and improving service delivery throughout Kwara State.
