The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, fdc, has once more stated his belief in the effectiveness of intelligence in policing Nigeria despite the complexity of the task at hand, and that no level of our society can compromise on its acceptance of increased security.

In order to increase capacity and stabilize internal security order, the IGP highlighted that cutting edge technology and an intelligence-led policing model are essential to the operational and investigative tasks of the police.

This comes after some significant intelligence and operational breakthroughs that Operational Outfits of the Force Intelligence Bureau have documented (FIB).

In a significant intelligence-led operation, the operatives were able to capture 47-year-old Abdullahi Baka “m,” a notorious gunrunner who specialized in providing illegal weapons and ammunition to dangerous criminal groups terrorizing the states of Bauchi, Gombe, and Taraba.

As a result of the suspect’s voluntary confession, Abubakar Sani’m’, 27, Alh. Guru Maga, Alh. Manu Ardo, and Hamisu Abubakar, all males from Bauchi and Taraba States who are part of a lethal kidnapping syndicate operating in and around Gombe and Bauchi States, were all apprehended as a result of the suspect’s voluntary confession.

The suspects’ possessions included four AK49 rifles, four AK47 rifles, 49 live rounds of ammunition, three AK47 magazines, and one submachine gun (SMG).

In yet another significant intelligence-driven operation, FIB agents detained Jamilu Abdulkadir and Sai Fullahi Lawal, two males from Safana LGA in Katsina State, at Matazu LGA after receiving discreet information about their involvement in aiding bandits and serving as go-betweens for kidnap kingpins.

They were detained in possession of N20,000, which was the remaining balance owed for 500 rounds of AK-47 ammo to known kidnapping kingpin Sani aka Bafudinge.

Usman Manu Mohammed “m,” 24, of Mariri, Lere LGA, Kaduna State, was captured after avoiding capture for weeks for his part in the kidnapping of a livestock trader in Kaduna State in March 2022.

They are currently providing information to the police that will allow for additional arrests.

However, the IGP has directed police officers in charge of kidnapping, insurgency, and organized crime cases across the nation to intensify their investigations in order to identify criminal networks and possibly link the cases in order to determine the multifaceted mode of operation of the syndicate and swiftly put an end to their activities.

All police officers have been instructed by Inspector-General of Police Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, fdc, to concentrate as much as possible on intelligence gathering, which is the center and foundation of contemporary policing.

The IGP also stressed the significance of traditional intelligence gathering methods and community interaction, and he urged all officers to use them in the course of their regular police work.
