FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SEEKS COLLECTIVE EFFORTS TO FIGHT INSECURITY
By Sumayyah Olapade
The Federal Government has called for collective efforts to prevent violence and extremist attacks in the country.
Dame Pauline Tallen, Minister of Women Affairs, lamented the loss of lives and property in the country due to insecurity on Tuesday at the National Stakeholders Forum on Parenting for Peace in Abuja, noting that this might have a cascading effect on the nation’s economy.
Tallen, who was represented by the ministry’s Acting Permanent Secretary, Idris Mohammed, stated that all hands must be on deck to combat violence and extremism in all forms that endanger the country’s peaceful existence.
“It is terrible to learn that we continue to lose lives and property,” she remarked. Many people are being held hostage for ransom, and millions of people have been displaced across Nigeria.
“This leads to a loss of livelihood and, as a result, billions of naira; resources are repeatedly wasted, resulting in depletion of national resources, which may eventually contribute to the nation’s depleting economy.”
“To bring peace to our people, all hands must be on deck to prevent violence and extremism in all forms, which is the heart of our assembly today to debate the way forward.”
Mr Ndubisi Anyanwu, Country Director of Mercy Corps, stated that the organization had promoted peace and stability by addressing and reducing gender dynamics that perpetuate and intensify conflict in the country.
Anyanwu, who was represented by Adesola Asogi, Acting Country Director, stated that the Corps has worked with female government employees to improve their ability to resolve disagreements peacefully.
