PROTEST AS KIDNAPPERS KILL LAUTECH STUDENT
By Sumayyah Olapade
Students from Ogbomoso’s Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, as well as other community youths, are currently conducting a public protest.
It was reported that the news of the alleged murder of LAUTECH Final Year student Rachael Opadele and hotelier Olugbenga Owolabi spurred the protest.
Although the police have not confirmed the killing, sources close to the student’s family said the two were shot dead after the kidnappers demanded a N5 million ransom.
The okada rider who delivered the ransom to the kidnapper’s hideout was apparently shot, but he was still alive, according to sources.
Adewale Osifeso, the state Police Public Relations Officer, could not be reached.
When contacted, the Student Union President of LAUTECH, Anuoluwa Adeboye stated that he had not confirmed the story from the police. When called, Oba Francis, the Olugbon of Orile Igbon, verified the occurrence stating, “It is real.”
According to many sources, irate protestors denouncing the alleged murders of the victims have taken over the Ogbomoso-Ilorin route.
The two victims were kidnapped on Thursday night at a motel in the Surulere Local Government Area’s Abaa village.
