ABDULRAZAQ, SPEAKER MOURN FOUR FAMILY MEMBERS KILLED IN KWARA BUILDING COLLAPSE

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, and Senator representing Kwara Central, Saliu Mustapha, have expressed grief over the death of four members of a family in a building collapse in Ilorin.

The three-storey building collapsed on Tuesday at No. 41 Popo Giwa Street, near Gogoro Mosque, in the Popo Giwa/Abemi area of Ilorin West Local Government Area, trapping eight members of the same family under the rubble.

Four victims were rescued alive, while four others lost their lives as emergency responders and community volunteers worked for several hours to rescue those trapped.

Reacting to the incident, Governor AbdulRazaq said he was deeply saddened by the tragedy and had visited the survivors receiving treatment to assess their condition.

He said the state government was providing medical care and other necessary support to the injured victims to aid their recovery.

The governor also disclosed that a government delegation led by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Lawal Olohungbebe, had visited the scene to assess the situation and sympathise with the affected community.

AbdulRazaq commended personnel of the State Emergency Management Agency, State Fire Service, Ilorin West Local Government and community volunteers for their coordinated rescue efforts.

He said the incident underscored the need for strict adherence to construction safety standards and assured residents that his administration remained committed to enforcing building regulations.

The governor urged residents to cooperate with authorities and take safety protocols seriously to prevent similar tragedies.

Meanwhile, Senator Saliu Mustapha expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and the affected community, describing the incident as tragic.

He commended the emergency responders for their efforts and called for stricter enforcement of building regulations by property owners and developers.

Mustapha also urged residents to promptly report signs of structural defects or weakness before they result in life-threatening incidents.

Similarly, Speaker Yakubu Danladi-Salihu mourned the victims and commiserated with their families.

The Speaker, who also serves as the APC governorship candidate, described the incident as unfortunate and prayed for the speedy recovery of the survivors who sustained injuries.

He also commended the state government and rescue teams for their swift response to the building collapse.
