ABURE-LED LP FACTION ADOPTS YOUTH LEADER KENNEDY AHANOTU AS PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE

The Labour Party group led by Julius Abure has chosen Kennedy Ahanotu, the party‘s national youth leader, as their candidate for the 2027 elections.
In a statement on Saturday, Obiora Ifoh, the national publicity secretary of the Labour Party group, said Ahanotu received 2,944,420 votes in a party primary.
Ifoh said the result of the primary was announced by Ayodele Olorunfemi, deputy national chairman of the party, at a press conference in Abuja.
He said the party will field governorship candidates in 30 states, adding that a list of successful candidates for the senate, house of representatives and state houses of assembly has also been released.
The party urged “the candidates to distinguish themselves from the current leaders who have chosen their pockets ahead of the general welfare of Nigerians”.
In his acceptance speech, Ahanotu talked about how his rise shows the party‘s confidence, teamwork, and common goals.
“I do not see this consensus as a personal endorsement alone; I see it as a collective mandate to unite our party, inspire our nation, and offer Nigerians a credible alternative built on competence, integrity, and service,” he said.
“With this consensus comes an even greater responsibility, and I pledge never to take that trust for granted.”
He said the party was founded on the principle that Nigeria works best when it works for everyone.
“We must build a Nigeria where every child has access to quality education, where every family feels secure, where every worker earns a dignified living, and where every citizen has a fair opportunity to succeed regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, social status, or geographical location,” he said.
The youth leader said his government would be anchored on four pillars, including economic prosperity, quality education, security and justice, as well as national stability, power, infrastructure and industrial development.
“Our administration will pursue policies that stimulate production rather than consumption,” he said.
“We will invest significantly in education at all levels, improve school infrastructure, strengthen teacher training, modernise our curricula, and ensure that technology becomes a tool for learning, innovation, and economic advancement.
”We will aggressively pursue power sector reforms, decentralise electricity generation, encourage renewable energy investments, modernise transport infrastructure, and create the conditions necessary for industrial growth and economic competitiveness.”
Meanwhile, the faction of the party led by Nenadi Usman has announced Chibuzo Okereke, who is an expert in governance and policy strategy, as their presidential candidate.
In January, INEC officially recognized the Usman-led LP after a federal high court decision confirmed her leadership.
