ADAMAWA THUNDERSTORM CLAIMS SIX CHILDREN’S LIVES, LEAVES OTHERS INJURED

A thunderstorm has claimed the lives of six children in Dadiri Tirgali village, Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State, after lightning struck a group of minors working on a farm.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, July 19, 2026, when about eight children were reportedly caught in the storm while working on farmland. Six of them died on the spot, while two others sustained injuries.
The injured children were said to have been taken to a medical facility for treatment.
Reacting to the incident, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Christopher Nathaniel, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the children.
In a condolence message, Nathaniel described the tragedy as a devastating blow to the people of Ganye Chiefdom and the entire state.
He extended his sympathies to the bereaved families, the residents of Dadiri Tirgali, the Gangwari Ganye, and the people of Ganye Local Government Area.
Nathaniel noted that the deaths of the children had plunged the community into mourning.
Ganye Local Government Area is widely regarded as the food basket of Adamawa State due to its large-scale production of food crops, particularly yams.
