OSUN 2026: MONARCH DENIES ENDORSING ADELEKE

The Orangun of Ila, Oba Wahab Oyedotun, has distanced himself from the endorsement of any governorship candidate ahead of the 2026 Osun State election, reaffirming his commitment to political neutrality.
The clarification followed a statement by the Osun State Government claiming that a delegation of Ila-Orangun chiefs visited Governor Ademola Adeleke and expressed support for his re-election on behalf of the monarch and the community.
Speaking at his palace, Oba Oyedotun said he could not openly support any political party because his subjects belong to different political affiliations.
He explained that his foremost responsibility is the growth and development of Ila-Orangun, rather than involvement in partisan politics.
The traditional ruler also advised monarchs across Yorubaland to remain above political divisions, noting that politicians from different parties are all their subjects and often maintain cordial relationships despite their political differences.
Although he acknowledged that those who visited Governor Adeleke are members of the Ila-Orangun community, Oba Oyedotun said he neither authorised nor approved the endorsement made in his name.
He described the inclusion of his name in the endorsement as inappropriate, saying, “What I found disturbing is the way they used my name.”
