A 55-year-old farmer in Borno State, Ali Mustapha, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for allegedly concealing information about Boko Haram activities in his Katara village.

Mustapha, who had been in custody since 2013, was arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, where he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Delivering judgment, Justice Binta Fatima Nyako convicted and sentenced him to 15 years imprisonment without an option of fine.

The judge noted the defendant’s claim that there were no accessible government officials or security agencies in his remote village to report the incident to.

Justice Nyako further ordered that the sentence should take effect from 2013, the year he was first arrested and detained.
