EMEMOBONG ACCUSES WIKE OF ACTING AGAINST RULE OF LAW

Factional National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ini Ememobong, has criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of actions that he said threaten constitutional freedoms and the rule of law.
Speaking during an interview with the Media on Friday, Ememobong stressed that Nigeria’s democratic system is anchored on the rule of law, which places limits on the powers of public office holders.
He argued that neither the President nor the FCT Minister has the authority to infringe on the fundamental rights guaranteed to citizens under the Constitution.

According to Ememobong, Nigerians are entitled to own property, assemble peacefully and freely associate irrespective of their political affiliations. He maintained that even political groups that are not formally registered retain the constitutional right to hold lawful meetings.
The PDP spokesman warned that any attempt to curtail such freedoms would amount to a violation of constitutional provisions and could erode the country’s democratic principles.
He also suggested that moves aimed at restricting political gatherings stem from unnecessary fears, claiming that Wike appeared to be “afraid of his own shadow.”
“The foundation of this country is the rule of law, which means power is limited and not absolute. Neither the FCT Minister nor the President has unfettered authority to override fundamental rights,” Ememobong said.
“Nigerians, whether they belong to political parties or informal associations, have the right to own property, assemble and associate freely.
“Even unregistered political associations have the constitutional right to meet peacefully. Any attempt to restrict these rights contradicts the Constitution and undermines the principle of the rule of law.”
