Former Super Eagles captain Austin Okocha holds the FIFA record for the most successful dribbles in a single FIFA World Cup match.

According to FIFA statistics, Okocha completed 15 successful dribbles during Nigeria’s clash with Italy at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States, a feat that remains unmatched in the tournament’s history.

Behind the Nigerian icon on the all-time list are Jairzinho, who registered 13 successful dribbles against Uruguay in 1970, and Paul Gascoigne, who matched that tally against Cameroon at the 1990 World Cup.

Other players to record 12 successful dribbles in a World Cup match include Eusébio against Hungary in 1966, Reinhard Libuda against Bulgaria in 1970, Johan Cruyff against Sweden in 1974, Sandro Mazzola against Poland in 1974, Diego Maradona against England in 1986, and Jamal Musiala against Costa Rica in 2022.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi holds the record for the highest number of successful take-ons in World Cup history with 125, while Maradona remains the player with the most successful dribbles in a single tournament, completing 53 at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.
