FORMER OGUN FIRST LADY’S MOTHER DIES AT 93

Chief Sabainah Ibironke Opawole (née Osoba), the mother of former Ogun State First Lady, Yeye Olufunke Daniel, has passed away at the age of 93.

Yeye Olufunke Daniel is the wife of former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by Daniel’s media aide, Steve Oliyide, Mrs Opawole died peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2026, following a brief illness.

The statement noted that the Opawole and Daniel families were mourning the loss of their matriarch, describing her as a woman who lived a fulfilled life rooted in faith, family values and service.

Born on April 23, 1933, to Princess Mariam Ladigbolu of the prominent Ladigbolu family of the Oyo Kingdom and the late Rev. O. Osoba of Olodo Village, Abeokuta, Chief Opawole was remembered for her deep Christian faith and commitment to family.

A devoted member of the Baptist denomination, she was said to have lived a life marked by humility, devotion and unwavering principles.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Yeye Olufunke Daniel.

The family said her death has attracted condolences from relatives, friends and associates within and outside Ogun State, many of whom remembered her as a graceful, strong and deeply faithful woman.

Funeral arrangements, the statement added, will be announced at a later date, while the family appealed for prayers and support during this period of mourning.
