LASEMA SWIFTLY CONTAINS KETU-IKOSI FIRE INCIDENT

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), working alongside the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, has successfully contained a fire outbreak at No. 11, Ademola Taiwo Street, Ketu-Ikosi.
The incident affected one of a pair of three-storey twin residential buildings. On arrival, LASEMA’s Tiger Squad found the fire had engulfed the top floor of the building. Firefighters immediately launched a coordinated response, preventing the flames from spreading to the adjoining structure and nearby properties.
Preliminary findings by LASEMA’s Response Team indicated that the fire was triggered by an electrical surge from a prepaid meter located at the front balcony of the building. The flames subsequently spread to the uppermost floor.
During efforts to extinguish the blaze, two personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service collapsed while battling the fire. LASEMA promptly evacuated both officers to the Trauma Centre using the Agency’s ambulance and a response vehicle. The officers are currently receiving treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
No fatalities or civilian injuries were recorded in the incident.
LASEMA said dampening-down operations were ongoing to eliminate residual heat and prevent the fire from reigniting, while recovery efforts were also underway to secure the affected building and assess the extent of the damage.
The Agency commended the dedication and professionalism of all emergency responders, especially members of the Tiger Squad and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, whose swift intervention prevented the incident from escalating.
LASEMA also advised residents to regularly inspect and maintain electrical installations, including prepaid meters and wiring, to minimise the risk of electrical surges that could result in fire outbreaks.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with emergency officials as operations continue. He also encouraged Lagos residents to report emergencies through the state’s toll-free emergency lines, 112 and 767, for prompt response.
