MINING DISPUTE IN ZAMFARA LEAVES TWO DEAD, OTHERS WOUNDED

Two miners have been killed and several others injured following a violent confrontation at a mining site in Abare, Zamfara State.
The incident was reported on X on Saturday by security analyst Zagazola Makama.
According to Makama, the clash occurred on March 5 at approximately 8:30 a.m. at a mining site in the Abare area of Bukkuyum Local Government Area.
Security sources revealed that the violence began when a member of an outlawed vigilante group, locally known as Yan Sakai, allegedly entered the site and tried to compel Muslim miners to observe the ongoing Ramadan fast.

The suspect, identified only as Kaura, reportedly detained several miners, accusing them of refusing to participate in the fasting period and demanding compulsory levies from those he had detained.
Some miners resisted, arguing that the arrests and levies were unlawful. Kaura initially left the site but later returned with other group members to make additional arrests, sparking a confrontation that caused panic and tension across the mining area.
During the clash, two miners lost their lives, and five others sustained injuries. Security personnel were deployed to the scene following reports of the violence.
The injured were taken to a medical facility for treatment, while authorities have launched investigations to identify and apprehend those responsible. As of the latest report, no arrests had been made.
