Nigeria’s D’Tigress outlasted a determined Senegalese side to book a place in the final of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket with a 75–68 win on Saturday.
The intense semi-final clash took place at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The game opened with a high-octane first quarter, where D’Tigress narrowly led 22–17. Despite Senegal’s physical and aggressive approach, Nigeria edged the second quarter 21–20 to maintain their lead at halftime.
However, the momentum shifted in the third quarter as Senegal mounted a fierce comeback, outscoring Nigeria 21–9 to take control of the game.
Senegal stretched their advantage to 68–62 with seven minutes left on the clock, setting up a tense finish. But D’Tigress staged a powerful late-game rally, dominating the final stretch with a 23–10 run to seal the win.
Earlier in the tournament, Nigeria had stormed into the semi-finals with a commanding 83–47 victory over Cameroon on Thursday night.
By advancing to the semi-finals, Nigeria — along with Mali, Senegal, and South Sudan — has secured a spot in the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournaments, scheduled for March.
They will join 20 other national teams from across the globe, including Brazil, Argentina, the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Colombia, to compete for World Cup qualification.
