NNPP DENIES INVOLVEMENT IN PROPOSED PROTEST AGAINST INEC

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has disassociated itself from a protest reportedly scheduled against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
In a statement issued on Monday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ladipo Johnson, the NNPP described the planned protest as illegal, stating that it was being organised by an unauthorised group falsely claiming to represent the party.
The party stressed that its leadership has no involvement whatsoever in the proposed demonstration, insisting that those behind it are not recognised members of the NNPP.
“Our attention has been drawn to reports suggesting that the NNPP intends to stage a protest march against INEC on January 20, 2026, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja and across various states,” the statement said.

“The NNPP hereby dissociates itself from this illegal ‘demonstration’ being called by an unlawful body claiming to speak on behalf of the party.”
According to the statement, the organisers of the protest had already been expelled from the party and were no longer members, a position affirmed by a Federal High Court ruling. The court, in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1354/2024 delivered on April 18, 2024, held that the individuals ceased to be NNPP members following their expulsion by the party’s appropriate organs.
The NNPP added that the affected individuals did not appeal the judgment but instead continued what it described as “forum shopping” by seeking court orders without proper legal basis.
“It is their usual practice to approach courts while withholding material facts. Once the courts are fully informed, such actions are dismissed,” the party stated.
Reaffirming its stance, the NNPP said it is not involved in any protest planned for Tuesday and described the organisers as impostors. The party urged its members nationwide to remain calm, law-abiding and focused despite what it called deliberate attempts to distract it from its objectives.
“NNPP therefore urges all its members to remain calm and focused, even in the face of deliberate provocation,” the statement concluded.
