OSUN APC CRISIS DEEPENS AS PARTY OFFICIALS REJECT 168-MEMBER CAMPAIGN COUNCIL

Some members of the Osun State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have rejected the newly released Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) list in the state, questioning the emergence of a separate campaign structure and deepening the crisis within the party’s state chapter.
In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Wole Adunola, the officials said they rejected the list in its current form.
The statement was also signed by the party’s Welfare Officer, Deaconess Adesola Ayangbile; Assistant Organising Secretary, Rasheed Adeniji; and Ex-Officio member, Abiola Ololade.
The officials expressed dissatisfaction with the composition of the list, arguing that it did not reflect established party guidelines, due process and the principle of inclusiveness expected in setting up an important campaign structure.
The list, reportedly unveiled on Monday by the state chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, comprises 168 members of the presidential and parliamentary campaign council. It is headed by the party’s governorship candidate in the last election, Bola Oyebamiji, as Director-General, while Lawal serves as his deputy.
However, the aggrieved officials expressed concern over what they described as the exclusion of several State Working Committee members who, according to applicable guidelines, should automatically be members of the council.
They argued that leaving out recognised party officials raised questions about consultation, due process and respect for the party’s established leadership structure.
The signatories also said the list appeared to contradict an earlier presidential directive reportedly naming Governor Ademola Adeleke as Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council in Osun State.
According to them, Adeleke had subsequently inaugurated a broad-based campaign team to coordinate President Bola Tinubu’s campaign across the state, making the emergence of another structure without proper clarification or alignment questionable.
Adeleke, who is associated with the Accord Party, was named the state coordinator of Tinubu’s campaign by the APC national leadership.
He had earlier inaugurated a 344-member campaign council in Osogbo on October 22, an event attended by the APC National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru. Reports indicated that Lawal and Oyebamiji were absent from the inauguration.
The officials, however, suggested that the newly released list could be more appropriate if it was intended for parliamentary campaigns rather than the presidential campaign.
They said such a distinction needed to be clearly established to prevent confusion, duplication of responsibilities and unnecessary disagreements within the party’s campaign structure.
The officials further maintained that the State Executive Committee remained an essential part of the APC’s organisational framework, stressing that a successful campaign required mutual respect, proper coordination and the participation of legitimate party stakeholders.
They called for an immediate review of the list, with consultations involving relevant stakeholders, including Basiru and the State Director-General, to ensure proper coordination.
Despite their objections, the signatories reaffirmed their loyalty to the APC and President Bola Tinubu, insisting that their commitment to the party’s electoral success remained unwavering.
They, however, noted that loyalty should not prevent constructive engagement when decisions could create avoidable divisions and undermine the party’s collective efforts.
The officials urged the party leadership at both state and national levels to address their concerns promptly and make the necessary adjustments.
They maintained that the campaign council should respect established party structures, recognise legitimate leadership, accommodate key stakeholders and unite members towards electoral victory.
