OYO APC KNOCKS MAKINDE, DEMANDS RESIGNATION OVER INSECURITY

The Oyo State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized Governor Seyi Makinde for his remarks about the security situation in the state, saying his comments wrongly portray the role of state governors in dealing with insecurity.
In a statement released on Sunday by their spokesperson, Olawale Sadare, the party disagreed with Makinde’s argument that he is limited in his efforts to handle insecurity because security agencies are controlled by the federal government.
The APC described the governor’s remarks as “a height of cluelessness, insincerity and criminal ineptitude,” insisting that he cannot shirk responsibility for the security challenges facing the state.
According to the opposition party, Makinde’s comments were inappropriate and amounted to an attempt to shift blame for the worsening security situation in Oyo State.
The party went further to call on the governor to resign from office, suggesting that his deputy should complete the remaining period of the administration.
“Parochial leaders like Makinde pose a grave danger to the growth and development of the Nigerian society, and it is important for the electorate to avoid them in future elections,” the statement said.
The APC’s reaction follows remarks credited to Makinde during his acceptance speech as the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ibadan on Saturday, where he lamented that there was little he could do to rescue kidnapped schoolchildren and other victims due to limited control over security agencies.
Makinde had argued that governors do not have absolute authority over security structures, a position the APC strongly rejected.
