POLICE FREE ABDUCTED WOMAN IN DELTA

The Delta State Police Command has rescued a woman who was abducted in Amukpe, Sapele Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Warri on Friday.
Edafe said the woman was abducted from her residence on Wednesday while attempting to drive into her compound.
According to him, the hoodlums had laid siege to the entrance of the residence and fired several shots into the air before whisking the victim away into a nearby bush.
He said operatives of the Sapele Police Division, supported by local vigilantes, rescued the woman on Thursday following a distress call.
“Upon receiving the report, the Sapele Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilised patrol and surveillance teams to the scene, where expended AK-47 ammunition shells were recovered.
“The operatives, supported by local vigilantes, thereafter commenced an intensive search of the surrounding bushes.
“The search was sustained throughout the night until the following morning.
“Sensing danger on Thursday morning, the abductors abandoned the victim and fled,” Edafe added.
The police spokesman said the victim was rescued unhurt and had since been reunited with her family.
He added that efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Edafe said the Commissioner of Police, Samuel Erale, commended the police operatives and local vigilantes for their roles in the successful rescue operation.
According to him, Erale reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustained intelligence-led operations and decisive action against kidnappers, cultists and other criminal elements across the state.
The commissioner also assured residents of the command’s determination to protect lives and property, urging them to provide security agencies with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and investigation.
