The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested four suspected bandits in Chikun Local Government Area and recovered 65 rustled cattle.

According to the police, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on credible intelligence, raided the Kakura area of Chikun LGA, where the suspects were apprehended.

The suspects were identified as Ibrahim Shuaibu, also known as Magaji, and Buhari Ibrahim, both from Kakura; Musa Haruna from Gora; and Abdullahi Idi from Dan Damisa, Zaria.

Police said 65 cows suspected to have been rustled were recovered from the suspects during the operation.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects, who are cattle rearers, allegedly admitted that the cows were brought to them by one Kyauta of Izuwa, a suspected bandit who is currently at large. The police said efforts are ongoing to track and arrest the suspect.

The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts against banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities.

Rabiu assured residents of the command’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and bringing perpetrators to justice.

Banditry remains one of Nigeria’s most pressing security challenges, particularly in the North-West region, where armed groups have been linked to cattle rustling, kidnappings, attacks on rural communities, and disruption of economic activities.

Despite recent operational successes by security forces, including arrests and recoveries, analysts warn that the persistence of banditry underscores the need for sustained security action alongside broader socio-economic interventions to address its root causes.
